Our Curriculum

Our broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum

At St Jude’s, we intend our curriculum to be creative, exciting and meaningful so that it meets the needs of all our children.

Children from Year 1 to Year 6 follow a rich, broad and balanced curriculum which includes English, Mathematics, Science, Religious Education, History, Geography, PSHE, PE, Art, Design and Technology, Computing and Spanish.

Children in Reception experience the awe and wonder of the world in which they live, through the seven areas of learning: communication and language, physical development, personal, social and emotional development, literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design.

Exceptional learning outcomes are provided for our children through engaging and relevant cross-curricular topics, ranging from ‘The Circus is Coming to Town’, ‘From Morse to Mobile’ to ‘Chocoholics’. These themes ensure the cultural capital our children gain sticks in the long term memory bank.

Our children collaborate and learn in a variety of ways; whole class, in small groups, in pairs or individually. We incorporate a mastery approach to learning, where every child is given the support and resources required to achieve their potential.

Our children are inspired and motivated by our progressive curriculum that gives them the opportunity to build upon knowledge and skills across the school, over time.

Our classes are exceptionally well supported by our teaching or higher level teaching assistants, who work collaboratively with the class teachers to ensure our children make excellent progress.
