Reception Class

Teacher – Madeleine Appleby

Welcome to Reception!

Our class teacher is Miss Appleby. The other adults helping us this year are Miss Duke and Mrs Gordon. Mr Cutts also helps us by teaching us PE and music every Friday. Children are expected to come to school in their PE kit with their school uniform in their bags to change into. Our school day starts at 8.50 in the line, ready to start learning at 8.55.

We are really excited about starting our St. Jude’s journey, using all the areas in our classroom to embed our new skills and knowledge. Our curriculum is cross-curricular, with overarching topics which foster links and connections across the different areas of learning and development. We look forward to getting busy each day, learning through play, whole class teaching and guided groups.

In our classroom, you may find us enjoying our learning in the small world area, role play area, creation station or the malleable zone. We also love to spend time outdoors; this could be in our mud kitchen, water tray, construction area or nature garden.

We value reading so much in our school. To develop our love for reading, we have our own reading day where we read 1-1 with an adult and have our home reader changed weekly. We can also choose a book from our classroom library. We bring in our reading record everyday and ask for adults at home to record what we have read and our thoughts on it.

To support and continue our learning at home, we receive home learning tasks on a Thursday and hand it back in electronically on Tuesday, via Google Classroom.
