Year 1

Teacher – Lucia Otin

Welcome to Class 1!

Our class teacher is Miss Otin. The other adults helping us this year are Miss Hunjan, Miss Cafun and Mr Cutts. We are so lucky to have all these adults to help us!

We are really looking forward to learning about all of the exciting topics Year 1 has to offer.
These fabulous topics include: Transport, The Magic Toymaker, Dinosaurs, Ahoy There,  Maps mastery and our wonderful World.

In class 1 we use lots of talk and actions to help us with our English and Maths. The creative areas of our classroom help us use our imagination and learn every day! We also have a daily reading session to improve our reading skills and we enjoy exploring our class library freely too. We take home our reading book and reading records to practise with our grown ups and show them how much we improve with a big effort!

In the summer term we will complete the Phonics Check to show off our amazing reading skills.

We are also learning Spanish and our learning will be focused on greetings, numbers up to 20, colours and shapes. We will also learn basic foods, class items and days of the week. We are introducing stories in Spanish that are related to our learning e.g. the colour monster. With them we can extend our learning and see it in a practical way that we enjoy even more!

We love our P.E sessions on Tuesday  and Thursdays as well as doing art in our amazing Art Room. We are also so excited every week during our music and computing sessions and we are getting better every day! We have the rhyme inside and we also practise it during drumming sessions every Thursday.

One of the most important things in our daily routine is to be on time and perfectly ready for the day e.g. wearing suitable clothes for the day (uniform or P.E. kit) and bringing anything we need to school on time. We are sending home learning materials every Thursday and we really encourage everyone to complete them and send them back

This half term we are celebrating our reading party where we will enjoy books and cook a very special recipe to give us some energy. We will also visit Black Cultural Archives in Brixton to celebrate Black history month.

Please take a look at our topic webs each half term to find out more!
